Is it permissible to shave the head of a newborn girl on the seventh day?

Question: Is it permissible to shave the head of a newborn girl on the seventh day? Or is this provision only for children? And after shaving the hair of a girl's head on the seventh day of birth, is it not permissible to shave it again?

Answer:

When the child is born, it is sunnat mu'akkada to give his akika for the parents. Because, it has been narrated in the hadith,

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

ه كُلُّ غُلاَمٍ رَهِينَ بِعَقِيقَتِهِ تُذْبَحُ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ سَابِعِهِ وَيُحْلَقُ وَيُسَمَّى

‘Every child is bound by his Akika. On the seventh day after his birth (Akika's animal) will be slaughtered and his hair will be shaved and his name will be given. [Abu Dawood: 2640, Musnad Ahmad: 20095]

Now the question is, is it permissible for a boy and a girl to have their hair cut off, or is it only for a boy?

Disagreements were observed among the respected Imams on this issue. Such as:

এক A group of scholars including Imam Shafi'i and Imam Malik said that this hadith will include all newborn children whether they are boys or girls. That is, for both the son and the daughter, it is sunnat to do akika on the seventh day and to shave the hair of the head. This is because in Arabic, when only the male gender is used, it serves both male and female purposes. Separate documents will be required to separate the female sex. But there is no such document here. So the same provision will apply to both son and daughter.

In addition, they give evidence for their opinion by the following hadith. The hadith is that Imam Malik narrates from Jafar bin Muhammad - Jafar narrates from his father Muhammad. He said

وَزَنَتْ فاطمة بنت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم شعر حسن وحسين وزينب وأم كلثوم ، فتَصَدّقَتْ بِزِنَةِ ذلك فضة

“Fatima Ra. His two sons, Hassan and Hussein, and his two daughters, Zaynab and Umm Kulsum (who shaved their heads), donated silver along with the weight of their hair. " (Muwatta Malik. However, the hadith is Zayef because he is a mursal). There is another hadith in this regard but it is also Zayef due to the separation of munqati or sanad or narration source.

হাম On the other hand, according to the Hanbali school, this hadith applies only to boys; Not for girls. Because in Hadith, it is generally forbidden to shave the hair of girls. So that would apply here as well. This caused the creative distortion of the girl. Therefore, according to this, it is not circumcised to shave the hair of a girl, but on the seventh day, the newborn girl will bathe the child and clean the body, blood and dirt, etc., but will not shave the hair of the head.

(Bin Baz, Uthaymeen and other scholars are in favor of this.)

However, the two opinions are more reliable than the Jumhur or most of the Imams. That is, it is sunnat to shave the hair of both the boys and girls on the 7th day of Akika, InshaAllah. Because the language of the hadith proves that both boys and girls, and there is no separate document in favor of the prohibition of shaving the hair of newborn girls.

⭕ However, if a woman shaves her head to mourn the death of a person, then it is haram according to the consensus. (But it has nothing to do with the newborn.) The hadith is:

Narrated from Abu Burdah, he said: (His father) Abu Musa Ashari (R) became tired and fainted in pain. And (at that time) his head was placed on the lap of one of his wives and he started screaming and crying. He (due to being unconscious) could not stop her. So when he regained consciousness, he said,

I am the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

"I am free from the woman from whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was free. Undoubtedly, the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) has lost his relationship with the woman who weeps loudly in mourning, shaves her head and tears her clothes. " (Bukhari 1296, Muslim 298)

হ Ruling on shaving the hair of young girls at times other than Akika's time:

Other than Akika, it is not right to shave the hair of girls unless absolutely necessary. However, if it is necessary to shave the head for the treatment of the disease or if it is proved that shaving the hair will make the hair grow well on the head, the hair will be thick, the roots of the hair will be hard, etc., then it is permissible to shave the hair of young girls. Otherwise, it is not right to shave the hair of girls. Because, hair is a creative beauty of girls. So it cannot be distorted. Moreover, it becomes similar to the boys. And in Islam, it is strictly forbidden for girls to adopt the same gender as boys. As narrated from Ibn Abbas (R)

لَعَنَ الْمُتَشَبِّهَاتِ مِنَ النَِاسَاءِ بِالّرِجَالِ وَالْمُتَشَبِّهِينَ مِنَ الرَّجَالِ بِالنِّسَاءِ

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed the women who dress like men and the men who dress like women. [Abu Dawood, Chapter: Clothing, Paragraph: Women's Clothing. Sahih]

So if a parent shaves the hair of little girls without an urgent need, they will be guilty. If someone does this out of ignorance, then he has to repent.
